James is local to Rockhampton and completed his secondary education at The Cathedral College. In 2009 he completed his law degree at the Queensland University of Technology graduating with honours. After completing a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, he was admitted to the legal profession as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2010 and was subsequently admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of Australia. James joined the firm in 2011.
In 2012 he was awarded his Master of Laws degree, also from the Queensland University of Technology. The degree encompassed study in a range of areas including human rights law, international aid and development, sentencing, intellectual property law and employment law.
He has been confirmed as a doctoral candidate at the Queensland University of Technology. His research interest is in effective communication in a range of legal contexts and his PhD thesis will investigate the role of plain language in lawyer-client interactions.
James advises clients in the following areas:

- Commercial transactions
- Employment issues
James is a member of the Queensland Law Society and the Central Queensland Law Association.
He has an interest in mentoring law students and combines his role at South Geldard Lawyers with a position at Central Queensland University where he teaches in the faculty of Business and Law.
Outside the law James enjoys music and reading.
